From the Founder
I've been making films for as long as I can remember.
What began as home movies with friends and family eventually grew into a lifelong passion for animation, visual effects, and practical filmmaking. That journey led me to study animation in San Francisco before returning home to Houston, where I founded Puffy Cloud Studio with close friends who had been creating alongside me since childhood.
For me, stop-motion has always been more than a technique.
There is something special about building a world with your own hands. Every puppet carries fingerprints beneath its paint. Every miniature set tells the story of the artists who weathered, sculpted, assembled, and lit it. Every frame exists because someone cared enough to move a character a fraction of an inch.
That humanity cannot be manufactured.
Today, I serve as writer, director, animator, fabricator, cinematographer, and creative lead for our productions. Whether I'm designing characters, engineering armatures, painting sets, developing visual effects, or animating a scene one frame at a time, my goal is always the same—to create stories that feel alive because they were built by people.
The Cybernauts is the culmination of that philosophy.
It combines everything I've loved throughout my life—stop-motion, science fiction, practical effects, cyberpunk, world-building, and character-driven storytelling—into a single universe that our team has spent years bringing to life.
But the studio was never intended to exist for me alone.
One of the greatest joys I've found is helping other artists discover what they're capable of. Whether they're lifelong friends, experienced professionals, or creators just beginning their journey, I believe creativity grows when knowledge is shared freely. The best studios don't just produce films—they cultivate artists.
That's the kind of studio I hope Puffy Cloud Studio becomes.
If someone leaves our work inspired to create something of their own, then we've accomplished something far greater than simply finishing another project.
We're building worlds one frame at a time.
Hopefully, we're also helping build the next generation of storytellers.
"I don't want to create gatekeepers. I want to create stewards of artistry—artists who keep the flame alive by passing it to the next generation."
— Frank Lopez
Our Commitment to Artists
Human Creativity First
Puffy Cloud Studio is committed to preserving the craft of handmade animation and supporting the artists who make it possible. We do not use generative AI to create the artwork, puppets, sets, or animation featured in our productions. We believe original stories are strongest when they reflect the creativity, skill, and experiences of the people who create them.
